Backing up the cloud requires the same discipline and attention to detail that on premise backup systems do.
But the cloud has different base constructs, and no two clouds are the same. Even Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure require different approaches. Beyond that, while legacy backup companies are moving swiftly to build their cloud presence, there are born in the cloud vendors who have the luxury of starting with a clean slate. IT Blueprint is research active, evaluating the new and the old in our lab environment so that we can design and implement best of breed solutions for you.
On Premise Backup
IT Blueprint has long been in the business of designing and implementing backup systems for our customers.
We have relationships and hands on experience that allow us to custom craft solutions for each client. Our more recent focus however goes beyond on premise backup. As customers move to SaaS and cloud computing, they want to preserve the often substantial investment they’ve made already. IT Blueprint helps you extend and evolve your backup systems on premise, and with an eye to the future.
Backup TO the Cloud
The Cloud offers new options for a backup target.
You’re sending tape off site. Or perhaps you’re replicating to another site where you have storage and servers on stand by. Or both. Why? Restoring from off site tape is slow, and maintaining your own disaster recovery site is expensive. Why not get the best of both worlds?
Many customers who are staying on premise are nevertheless considering the cloud as a backup target. By backing up to the cloud, data can be restored on demand (subject to connectivity of course). But better still, in the event of a disaster, you have all the compute resources you could need on standby, and unless you use them, you don’t ever have to pay for them.
At IT Blueprint, we understand how to leverage the cloud.
Backup FROM the Cloud
So you’re in the cloud. Why would you backup FROM the cloud?
At day’s end, any cloud is just one or more physical data centres. Beyond that, there are issues like data corruption, ransomeware, human error and yes, even rogue employees. A point in time copy of your data is critical to recover from all of them. But why put that point of time copy outside the cloud?
Putting your backup data outside the cloud also protects you against cloud lock in. IT Blueprint can show you how to backup from the cloud while minimizing egress charges. With a cost effective external copy of your data, you can move to a different cloud, or expose that data to other clouds that may be better suited to specific work loads.
So you’ve got part of your infrastructure on premise and part in the cloud.
Some of your cloud is Saas and some is IaaS and maybe you’ve got others as well. What’s your backup strategy? Try and force fit one solution across everything? We can say from experience that’s a challenge. A point solution for each service? That’s a lot of management overhead and complicates your disaster recovery plan.
At IT Blueprint, we have experienced Backup and Disaster Recovery architects. We stay up to speed with all the emerging technologies, and bring new solutions, vetted in our lab, to the table. We’ll get you to a backup strategy that works and is manageable.
